PPC runs a Children’s Participation and Peer Support Project funded by Comic Relief.
The overall aim of the program is to ensure a child – centered participatory approach becomes central to PPC’s ethos and practices.
Objectives
- Providing peer – support opportunities for children and young people affected and infected by HIV through CRIB group
- To explore and advocate on the issue of child participation and develop a frame work of a range of practice models that will empower young people to make decisions about their own lives
- To develop ways of working with children that involves them in the decision asking process
- To relieve the stress and anxiety caused to children and young people by the secrecy and discrimination regarding HIV infection and to promote clear, user friendly information developed by and for children within PPC and externally
- To ensure strategic priority is given to the voice of children within PPC and Externally within both HIV and Children’s services
- To ensure children’s Participation is incorporated into all aspects of PPC’s work
Achievements
Saturday Club Consultation: Children age 8-11
Children’ named their Club which is now called “Bubbles” and chose the activities they want to do
Young people were involved in the design of leaflets
CRIB - “Chasing rainbows is our business”:
Since December 2004 the group has developed from 2 to 17 members
The young people raised funds for their activities and went on the "Walk for Life"
